The Blight, or Fischer Virus, originated in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam and was known in its early phase, pre-mutation, as Mekong Rice Blight.
The Blight was a worldwide disaster of unprecedented proportions. It is responsible for the most extensive socio-economic and political changes since the Industrial Revolution on Earth. The Blight is responsible for the loss of more human life than the Great Plague, the Spanish Flu Pandemic and The Holocaust combined.
