Anat Media
Anat Media is a Mars-based publishing company.
History
It is named after the Mesopotamian war goddess, the Mars-based publishing house is the largest media company outside of Earth and Luna.
They started out providing educational media geared to the specific survival needs on Mars, followed by more general educational needs, especially for homeschooling.
Since then, they've expanded to other topics, but retain a strong focus on non-fictional materials, from documentaries to guide books to slice-of-life sensory recordings and live-streaming.
Notable Publications & Mindset
Their probably best known line is the "An Underground Guide to ..." series, including the famous "An Underground Guide to the Solar System" by Janice Yager.
This series is a showcase for the Anat Media's mindset, born out of the independent, frontier spirit of the Mars colonists: The publisher won't interfere with the content or opinion of their authors, leading them to have published some rather controversial works. Which in turn proved the old adage "there is no bad publicity".
This idiosyncratic approach actually generated quite a few fans on Mars, the asteroid belt and further outwards.
They currently are exploring if opening a branch on Poseidon would be viable. They also started work on "An Underground Guide to Poseidon".
Story Hooks
- A Day in the Life. Anat Media approaches the characters to make a documentary about their daily lives, portraying the "life on the new frontier". This might include a one or two media people following them and/or getting access to their Sensory Recorder. If they don't have one, Anat might sponsor one - if the characters are in some way living an interesting life.
- Local Presence. Anat Media is trying to establish a local presence - an office, a studio, staff and/or locally produced media content. They hire the characters to help with that - be it scouting locations or something else.
- We are the News. The characters are actually working in the news/publishing industry and for Anat.
