Located at 19°56'12" S, 03°06'47" E on Salvador Island, Alderberg (pop. ~1,100) is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Poseidon, and (more importantly, for most people) the only waypoint for air travel between Prime Meridian and the Haven Cluster.
Alderberg was founded on 12 June 2186 (298.87 SP), and named in honor of Father John Alder, who died in transit from IHMS failure. Its largest building is the Monastery of St. John the Baptist, officially run by Dominicans and responsible for much of the settlement’s daily working.

Government
The de facto leader of Alderberg is Abbess Helen Dolores Rich, chief administrator of the monastery, who was appointed to the position by the pope himself.
Archbishop Damon Lotaviano, while not actually a secular ruler and largely preoccupied with overseeing all Catholic activity on the planet, is a considerable influence in the community as well.
Economy
With no industry and very little commerce to speak of, Alderberg has never been self-sufficient and is unlikely to become so any time soon. Since many of Alderberg's inhabitants are sworn to vows of poverty and the Roman Catholic Church is willing to pay the bills, this is less of a concern than it might first appear.
